True Colors: Overcoming Body Image and Non-Scale Victories!

Writing this morning from my brand new, super speedy laptop!  Just call me flash.  Wait…I’m not sure I like the various connotations that could have…  Oh well, nevermind.  But it is so nice to be able to log in and write a blog entry without waiting 25 minutes for the computer to boot up…I probably should have replaced my seven year old dinosaur computer years ago.  The old one was so bad that I updated my blog from my iPhone the last two weeks, so those posts were short and to the point to say the least.  So let’s catch up a little bit.

First, yesterday was my weekly weigh in, and after a week of stasis, the loss is picking up again!  230.8 pounds this week!!!  That’s a 2.0 pound lost from a week ago, 27.8 pounds down from where I started this time around in July, and about 84 pounds from my estimated highest weight of 315 sometime in 2007-08.  I will say, loss has gotten a little more difficult lately.  My nutrition is still good, but I’m getting down to that point where exercise is becoming more and more important.  That’s been tricky with the sun going down earlier, and my being an evening exerciser.  I may end up having to join a gym soon, and that’s something that doesn’t really appeal to me, but I do want to keep up with my weight loss, so I’ll do what I have to when it gets to that.  My next goal is to reach 215 pounds, hopefully by New Year’s, which will mark 100 pounds lost.  It will be hard work, but I’m confident I can reach that goal.

So on various weight loss blogs and such, you’ll often hear the term “Non-Scale Victory” or NSV.  I think NSV’s represent the stuff of living, not just the numerical progress you’re making, but realizing the reasons why you’re working so hard to transform your life.  This past week, I’ve had a couple of significant NSV’s.  The most simple one was this morning.  I was Read more…

Holding steady…

So another short post, and apologies for not posting mid-week like I said I would. My seven year old laptop has been getting decrepit for a while. But the past two weeks it has truly been on its last legs. So much so that I broke down and ordered a new one this weekend, and I’m typing this post on my iPhone.

So I’m keeping this week’s update fairly short. On Friday, I was at 238.2 for the second week in a row. I’m happy I didn’t gain, but I was a little disappointed I didn’t lose again. The reasons are clear. I visited my parents the weekend after my last weigh in, and I indulged in lots of things I wouldn’t otherwise. I also have been struggling with exercise as the days get shorter. I like to run in Piedmont Park, Atlanta’s analog to Central Park, and by the time I get home from work, take the dog out, change, and drive the few miles to the park, it’s almost dark. I may need to join a gym soon. Ugh. I hate communal exercise. I did run both days this past weekend, though, and have been cleaner with my nutrition, so maybe I’ll get back on the downward trend this week! I’m so close to the 220’s I can taste it!

Back from New York!

20121014-231502.jpgIt’s been another busy week as I returned from my trip to New York and got back into the groove at work! I wasn’t terribly well-behaved while I was there. Enjoying pizza, pastries, cupcakes, and various other goodies. But man do I love that city! The walking helped a bit, and despite my poor diet while there, I lost .7 pounds this past week! My weight on Friday was 232.8! It was a busy weekend, so I’ll keep this post short, and plan to write more mid week! Good night, all.

One hand in the air for the big city…

A very quick post this week, as I’m leaving this afternoon for a long weekend in New York. This weekend has the potential to be pretty important actually, so I’m very excited to get back to one of my favorite cities! Since I’m already in an Empire State of Mind, I thought I’d share my favorite version of that song (even if it is a commercial)…I get goosebumps everytime I watch it.

Okay – so down to business. It was another good week on the Reconstructing 30 front! I weighed in this morning at 233.5 pounds!!! That’s down 2.2 pounds from last week, 25.1 pounds from where I started in July, and about 82 pounds total from my highest weight! I’m feeling good about where I am mentally, too. I’ve been able to make my nutrition more flexible this time around, I feel, and I don’t feel like I’m dieting at all. I’m just eating healthy! I will have pizza and a Gray’s Papaya hot dog this weekend, and probably some other goodies, but I’m not going hog wild. All will be well!
