Top 10 Body Changes to Get Me Through the Holidays

December 29, 2012 Comments off

So I have a couple of weeks of catching up to do with regards to reporting my weigh-ins.  In order to do it, I’ve returned to the bestest coffee shop in all the land, which I’ve often blogged from and about before.  Ground zero for my studying for the bar exam (and hence making a major career change), coming out of the closet, and various other life events.  I couldn’t take a week’s vacation and note spend some time here!  The news is good overall, and I’m proud of getting through the holidays without a complete debacle or meltdown of efforts.  In fact, the way I’ve been handling this year’s holidays makes me think that maybe, just maybe, I’ve finally made the switch in my head from being on a diet/eating plan/program to living a healthier lifestyle.

All that said, the weeks surrounding Christmas have not been a time for continued weight loss, and perhaps that’s not what I should have expected this time of year.  On the Friday before Christmas, I weighed in at Read more…

So I’ll start with the basics… Last week’s weigh in had been a little disappointing, with a .4 pound gain placing me at 249.3 pounds. I think it was an artificially high number that didn’t really reflect my actual progress, as I was having some digestion issues at the time. That was confirmed when I stepped on the scales Friday for this week’s weigh in. 245.6 pounds this week!!!!! That’s a 3.7 pound loss from last Friday, and a 13.0 pound loss since I restarted this journey in July! Overall, from my estimated highest weight of 315 pounds a few years back this is now a total loss of 69.4 pounds, and I’m only 10.4 pounds above my absolute lowest weight of 235.2 from a couple of years ago!!!

Needless to say, I’m very excited about my progress and feeling like I’m on track to potentially meet my next goal of getting to 235 before my birthday on October 30! I won’t lie; the numbers on the scale are important. However, there are other important things along this journey, too, that both motivate you to keep going and give you confidence in the here and now. For me, one of those things is when I begin to notice actual changes in my body.

I will never forget the morning a couple of years ago when I discovered my collar bones for the first time! This sounds so silly for a grown man to say, but

Motivation Week!

August 11, 2012 Comments off

This week turned out to be a week of awesome motivation on a few fronts.  First, though not necessarily foremost, Friday was my weekly weigh-in, and I made more progress!  My weight this week was 248.9!!!  That’s down 1.1 pounds from last week, 9.7 pounds from when I restarted this journey in July, and about 66 pounds total from my estimated highest weight of 315 pounds sometime in 2009!  Weight loss is always a good motivator to continue with my diet and nutrition efforts; it’s the reason I’m doing this, after all.

However, the numbers on the scale alone are not the biggest motivators to keep going; at least not this week.  The biggest motivator for this week came yesterday as I Read more…
